Carbon Dioxide and Red Mud Chemistry for Industrial Utilizations

Description

The increase of anthropogenic inorganic CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is creating global challenging problem for the future generation. The climate change and global warming can be reduced through utilization of greenhouse gases. Reduction/oxidation of CO2 changes the electronic arrangement on the atom due to loss or gain of the electron. Linear shape changes to angular shape, which can able to decrease heat (IR radiation) absorption capacity. The liner shape (O=C=O), highly stable molecule undergoes molecular vibrational transition due to its change of dipole moment, by receiving solar (IR) radiation reflected from earth, which causes global warming. But, it cannot re-radiate heat radiation into the earth atmosphere by change of its shape. CO2 is an abundant, inexpensive, nontoxic at low concentration, biorenewable, and economical resource. Whereas, red mud is composed of micro-nanomaterials of heterogeneous metal oxides of Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, Na2O, CaO, TiO2, etc. Both are attractive future generation resources "green chemistry" for the socio-economical-ecological sustainable development of industry.

Mechanics Of Coastal Sediment Transport

Description

This book treats the subject of sediment transport in the marine environment, covering transport of noncohesive sediment by waves and currents in- and outside the surf zone. It can be read independently, but a background in hydraulics and basic wave mechanics is required. The primary aim of the book is to describe the physical processes of sediment transport and how to represent them in mathematical models. The book can be divided in two main parts; in the first, the relevant hydrodynamic theory is described. This part contains a review of elementary theory for water waves, chapters on the turbulent wave boundary layer and the turbulent interaction between waves and currents, and finally, surf zone hydrodynamics and wave driven currents. The second part covers sediment transport and morphological development. The part on sediment transport introduces the basic concepts (critical bed shear stress, bed load, suspended load and sheet layer, near-bed concentration, effect of sloping bed); it treats suspended sediment in waves and current and in the surf zone, and current and wave-generated bed forms. Finally, the modelling of cross-shore and long-shore sediment transport is described together with the development of coastal profiles and coastlines.

The Plundered Planet : How to Reconcile Prosperity With Nature

Description

In The Plundered Planet: How to Reconcile Prosperity with Nature Paul Collier proposes a radical and often counter-intuitive rethink of international policy in order to combat global poverty and environmental devastation. How can we help poorer countries become richer without harming the planet? Is there a way of reconciling prosperity with nature? World-renowned economist Paul Collier offers smart, surprising and above all realistic answers to this dilemma. Steering a path between the desires of unchecked profiteering and the romantic views of environmentalists, he explores creative ways to deal with poverty, overpopulation and climate change - showing that the solutions needn't cost the earth. 'A practical handbook for ending world poverty. He wants us to read the evidence, not wear slogans on our T-shirts' Sunday Times 'Collier and his team have researched the detail ... If you want to help the world, stem your bleeding heart and tell your broker to switch your funds to Emerging Markets (Africa)' Sunday Telegraph 'An intriguing take on how western nations can stop poor countries rich in resources from being exploited' Observer 'Anyone looking for a primer on how best to exploit the riches of nature could do worse than reading this introduction to the problem' Economist 'Paul Collier must be read if one is to begin to understand the most vital contemporary arguments' Bob Geldof Paul Collier is Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for the Study of African Economies at Oxford University and a former director of Development Research at the World Bank. In addition to the award-winning The Bottom Billion, he is the author of Wars, Guns, and Votes: Democracy in Dangerous Places.

Yes, this book came out in January. No, we are not done talking about it. "Entertainment Weekly"" Alberto is an energetic, people-pleasing eighth grader. He seems to have it all--from the junior high varsity team to his family's beautiful new home to leadership in his youth group. But he feels pressured by team members who mock his Christianity and rejected by his dad whose work requires more and more travel. His young spiritual life is in a precarious place. Last year, as a high school sophomore, Jonathan began spending time with some recreational drug users. He was confident in his ability to hang out with these guys without getting involved with drugs. But he crossed the line. Jonathan is broken and cannot find his way back to the comfort of his previous trust in Jesus. Rachel is estranged from her parents. In her freshman year at college, she is sharing an apartment with her boyfriend. She is torn between her emotional dependence on his attention and the fear that he will once again hurt her in a drunken rage. She has tried church but deemed it to be unsafe for a person like herself. This generation is the first to travel a truly postmodern pilgrimage where religious pluralism and faddish spiritual experiences are in vogue while Christianity is considered out of style. You want to reach them. But how? Richard Dunn suggests that the key is to set the pace in their lives--physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Pacing takes time. It requires listening to youth and digging beneath the surface. But it The Plundered Planet : How to Reconcile Prosperity With Nature download book pays off, because pacing allows you to enter the world of an adolescent and communicate caring. In this book, Dunn shows you how to set the pace with sensitivity to the unique spiritual issues that occur during each stage of adolescent development: junior high, senior high and college.

Description

A blood-spattered battle between diabolical sorcerers and the monsters they created. Reads R to L (Japanese Style), for audiences rated mature. In a city so dismal it's known only as "the Hole," a clan of Sorcerers has been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious "experiments" in the black arts. In a dark alley, Nikaido found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia. To undo the spell, they're hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they'll kill the right one. But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of "cleaners" into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds. Deep in the world of sorcerers, Caiman devises a daring plan to sneak into En's mansion under the guise of a meat-pie competition, posing as Tanba's wife (!) in order to infiltrate the darkest recesses of the crime lord s sprawling estate. Unfortunately, the contract Nikaido was forced to sign with En is affecting her memory, and she may not even remember Caiman when he manages to get to her. Meanwhile, the Professor and his friends engineer their own escape from En's dungeon with the help of a surprising friend from the Professor's past. And finally, the mysterious Risu does a little digging of his own, tracking down the Cross-Eye hideout in a distant town."

DSM-5 Guidebook: The Essential Companion to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders

Description

DSM-5 Guidebook: The Essential Companion to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition is a user-friendly, supplementary guide for psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health practitioners who need to know how DSM-5 differs from its predecessor in terms of organizational structure, diagnostic categories, and the criteria themselves. While it does not replace the comprehensive and authoritative DSM-5, it illuminates its content by teaching mental health professionals how to use the revised diagnostic criteria and by providing a practical context for its clinical use. The book offers many valuable features, including:; An historical overview of the development of the DSM in general, and DSM-5 in particular, a progression that might be said to mirror the evolution of psychiatry as a whole. The material on the creation of DSM-5 includes coverage of dimensional assessment, reliability and field trials, and the controversies that arose during development of DSM-5. An indispensable chapter on how to use DSM-5 that addresses coding, diagnostic certainty, the demise of the multiaxial system, and the key changes to each diagnostic category. Full coverage of the significant reorganization from DSM-IV-TR(R) to DSM-5, which is designed to incorporate advances in neuroscience, brain imaging and genetics. Chapters were reordered to reflect scientific advances in the understanding of psychiatric disorders, and the presumed etiological and the pathophysiological relationships among them. Extensive coverage of the decision to integrate dimensional measures into DSM-5, which may enhance the clinician's ability to assess symptom variation and severity and aid in patient evaluation, treatment decisions, and outcome monitoring. The various measures are presented and their use discussed. Finally, as the authors were not part of the revision process, they offer a fresh, down-to-earth perspective that will resonate with clinicians by focusing on the changes that will most significantly impact clinicians' professional lives. DSM-5 Guidebook provides a roadmap to the many changes in this living document, DSM-5, and will prove invaluable to psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, neurologists, social workers, and all who strive to understand mental illness as it is conceived today.

Kennedy Curse

Description

Death was merciful to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, for it spared her a parent's worst nightmare: the loss of a child. But if Jackie had lived to see her son, JFK Jr., perish in a plane crash on his way to his cousin's wedding, she would have been doubly horrified by the familiar pattern in the tragedy. Once again, on a day that should have been full of joy and celebration, America's first family was struck by the Kennedy Curse. In this probing expose, renowned Kennedy biographer Edward Klein--a bestselling author and journalist personally acquainted with many members of the Kennedy family--unravels one of the great mysteries of our time and explains why the Kennedys have been subjected to such a mind-boggling chain of calamities.Drawing upon scores of interviews with people who have never spoken out before, troves of private documents, archives in Ireland and America, and private conversations with Jackie, Klein explores the underlying pattern that governs the Kennedy Curse. The reader is treated to penetrating portraits of the Irish immigrant Patrick Kennedy; Rose Kennedy's father, "Honey Fitz"; the dynasty's founding father Joe Kennedy and his ill-fated daughter Kathleen, President Kennedy, accused rapist William Kennedy Smith, and the star-crossed lovers, JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Each of the seven profiles demonstrates the basic premise of this book: "The Kennedy Curse" is the result of the destructive collision between the Kennedy's fantasy of omnipotence-an unremitting desire to get away with things that others cannot-and the cold, hard realities of life.

Home Game: An Accidental Guide to Fatherhood

Description

A story of raging egos, brutal power struggles and fraught decision making, from the bestselling author of Liar's Poker, Michael Lewis. Home Game: An Accidental Guide to Fatherhood is probably the most brazenly honest and wickedly funny book about parenting ever written. Michael Lewis thought he'd seen it all. He'd worked in the city. He knew how to deal with the worst excesses of human behaviour. He had cojones. Right? Wrong. He was about to become a father: 'If you remembered what new parenthood was actually like you wouldn't go around lying to people about how wonderful it is, and you certainly wouldn't ever do it twice.' Here Lewis reveals his own unique take on new-found paternity: from discovering your three-year-old loves swearing to the ethics of taking your offspring gambling at the races, from toilet-training to the inevitable tantrums - of both parent and child - and the gradual realization that, despite everything, he's becoming hooked: 'I know for a fact that my children are insane. Or, at any rate, I know that if an adult behaved as my children do, he would be institutionalized. Is it possible that they are contagious?' 'Lewis is the finest storyteller of our generation' Malcolm Gladwell

Edgar Allan Poe,Gustave Dore: The Raven

The Raven

Description

An excellent early study of Poe's masterpiece from a literary rather than a psychological point of view. The author discusses ""the most popular lyric poem in the world"" in terms of the creative genesis of the poem and the history of the poem. Mr. Ingram presents translations that were made into French, German, Hungarian and Latin, a number of fabrications that were published, and some of the many parodies to which the poem gave rise. Incudes a bibliography of the early publishing history of the poem.

We wish the rest of you a long, safe, unutterably dull and boring life! 2016 National Book Award Winner for Young People's Literature #1 New York Times Bestseller Welcome to the stunning conclusion of the award-winning and best-selling MARCH trilogy. Congressman Oxford Latin Course: Student's Book Part III download book John Lewis, an American icon and one of the key figures of the civil rights movement, joins co-writer Andrew Aydin and artist Nate Powell to bring the lessons of history to vivid life for a new generation, urgently relevant for today's world. The Family You've Always Wanted: Five Ways You Can Make It Happen

Description

Many feel bombarded by images and experiences of broken families. This is not how God intended families to be! So often we examine the traits of unhealthy families, but Gary Chapman paints a biblical portrait of what a loving, stable family looks like. This book is not just to be read, but experienced. Chapman details five timeless characteristics that create a healthy family environment: A heart for service Husbands and wives who relate intimately Parents who guide their children Children who obey and honor parents Husbands who love and leadIn Dr. Chapman's own words, "What happens to your family does make a difference not only to you and your children, but to the thousands of young observers who are in search of a functional family."

But laying down roots doesn't come easily when two lives as different as theirs merge into one. And Emma will realize that the seeds of happiness must be nurtured and cherished to grow into something strong enough to shelter all their hopes and dreams ... Northern Wilderness is a stunning celebration of one of earth's great wildernesses. Ray Mears journeys on foot, by canoe and by snowshoe through mountains, forests, tundra and ice in a land where roads are still scarce. He explores the vast Boreal Forest and its rich animal life, and travels across the Hudson Bay by canoe, telling the story of the fur trappers who traded with the hat manufacturers of England. Ray follows the paths of the great early northern explorers, Samuel Hearne and David Thompson, who survived through their knowledge of what we now call bushcraft, as they trekked across the tundra and the Rocky Mountains. He explores the frozen north and learns the ways of the Inuit, who teach him how to combat snow blindness and build shelter. This book is rich in bushcraft, as Ray explains the unique survival techniques of the Native Canadians and the Inuit, as well as how the prospectors in The Family You've Always Wanted: Five Ways You Can Make It Happen download book the gold rush used bushcraft skills to survive in this inhospitable but awesome landscape.

The Spark: A Mother's Story of Nurturing, Genius and Autism

Description

'The Spark describes in glowing terms the profound intensity with which a mother can love her child' Andrew Solomon, author of Far from the Tree 'Extraordinary. A story of triumph against the odds and it's one that [Kristine] Barnett insists other parents can learn from' Sunday Times Kristine Barnett's son Jacob has an IQ higher than Einstein and a photographic memory. At nine he developed an original theory in astrophysics that may earn a Nobel Prize. But Jake's story is all the more remarkable because his extraordinary mind was almost lost to autism. When the experts wanted to restrict his behaviour - staring at shadows on the wall, stars, patterns - Jake withdrew into his own world. But against all the advice, Kristine decided to follow Jacob's passions - his 'spark'. The results were beyond anything anyone could have imagined. Dramatic and inspiring, The Spark is about the power of love and what can happen when we tap the true potential that lies within every child. 'If you have a child who's 'different' - and who doesn't? - you won't be able to put it down' Sylvia Nasar, author of A Beautiful Mind 'Every parent and teacher should read this fabulous book!' Temple Grandin, author of Thinking in Pictures and co-author of The Autistic Brain 'Astonishing, remarkable' Mail on Sunday 'Amazing, compulsive reading. Barnett not only fights heroically on Jake's behalf, she also beats down every other obstacle that life hurls at her and her family' Washington Post
